about

who the hell were Seminal Clwyd? "they just turned up one day", says Matthews. "I was in the hall waiting for a foreboding I'd had to manifest, when there was a scratching kind of tapping at the door, and there was Gremlin looking desperate with a chewed-up picture of Lizzie Dripping in his hand. 'We've got a flat groupie', he growled. 'Have you got any skins?' I said he could come in and look for Rizlas under the piano. Gremlin turned, shouted: 'we're in, lads' and four filthy welshmen in pullovers and moleskin combat trousers tumbled out from behind our privet and barged past. They stayed three months in the loft. Smoked all the insulation and used up my favourite felt tips drawing mazes. I finally got them to leave by inventing a UK tour for them, convinced them a ferry from Lowestoft was the quickest way to Cheshire. Even now I can't see Aled Jones without remembering how infuriating it was not to be able to underline anything in colour."

lyrics

So we meet at last
two snow monkeys on a wintery coast
I like the sound of your girlfriends' laughs
i hear through the door when i'm sorting the post
you got a smell that i could grow to like
it stays in the hall when the lights go black
You've stolen my heart and you've hidden my bike
but i know ways of getting 'em back

Lynching the landlord when he comes for the rent
and you got a face that doesn't repent
you broke down my door,
now you've squatted my heart
My lock and my hinges are busted apart
you saw me electric and plugged yourself in
So let's get beneath one another's skin
i got the toaster if you'll bring the bread
maybe I'll launder the sheets on my bed

I've done a course in Swedish massage
but I'm too damn good for the public at large
so we meet at last…

Ah! Records Nasty, UK

Ah! Records is officially the least successful record label of all time. Plagued for 30 years by bad luck, criminality, drug- induced recklessness and vandalism, only founders Bill Easton & Andy Matthews' belief in the merits of these releases have ensured Ah!'s continuity. Currently a toilet on a houseboat in Portugal, the office of Ah! introduces these gems to a new generation via bandcamp. x ... more
