Wilder's Song

about

Amazing True Story - Depeche Mode seriously considered becoming TV Cops! Short-lived north German cable station VielderFunk were hoping to win the jaded youth audience with a Cop show called "Kriminal MC" starring Nina Hagen as a tough police detective hunting down young criminals and singing with them. Hagen dropped out after an ostrich-related accident, and producers turned to Depeche Mode, thinking the team element would play well with Hamburg's anti-fash gang culture. Unfortunately for everybody Depeche Mode got their mojo back, but not before I had been commisioned (on the basis of the Schnellmodelle track) to write some incidental and leitmotif music for the show, which was by then named "Depeche Road", and guest-starred Thomas Dolby as a robot priest. So, I did a sleeve and almost released it before the production company's law team threatened to blitzkrieg my whole set-up. Since my set-up had recently expanded to a new table and some Schløer for the office, I took their threats seriously and most of the 7"s stayed somewhere in Bedford bus station. Recently Alan C Wilder asked for a copy which I hear he frisbeed into Dave Gahan's neck.

I think they airbrushed my face! Gloy abuse has made carnage of my memory (and tongue).
